Schools of fish appear in and around the stumps of a resevoir. Color fishfinders give you the ability to see the intensity of returns. The hard bottom is red, as are the solid sonar returns of fish and bait fish. Less dense objects, such as weeds or mud, show up blue or green. This makes it easier to determine the bottom consistency. In this screen, we can see a very distinct creek channel displayed at the bottom of a resevoir. The outline of weed - about eight feet off the bottom - is shown in red. The returns around the weed are schools of game fish. The fish returns that have red or orange indicate fish large enough to provide a solid return.
